Organizing With Playlists
By now, you know that iTunes do not allow adding a specific list to your favorites. If you are listening to certain artists every day, this means that you have to add them one-by-one. To avoid the hassle of doing this, you can just use the playlist area:
- Go to File menu and click New Folder. You can rename it whatever you want but for this example, let us use Artists. This is where you will store all the songs from your favorite artists.
- After that, go to File menu and click New Smart Playlist. Once the pop-up box opens, you will see an “Artist Contains” option. Check this, write the artist’s name on the box provided, and click OK.
- After that, simply drag the new playlist you have made to the Artist folder you first created. Now, you have all your favorite playlist from your favorite artists in one folder.
If you want to organize using Genres instead of Artists, the process is similar except that you will use “Genre Is” in the Smart Playlist box instead of “Artist Contains”. Of course, you have to make a separate folder for Genre as well.
If you want to view the folders and the playlist in a better way, go to View and choose Album View. This will let you see all the artists in the folder separated by albums. You can see the album artwork here as well.
Organizing The Main Library
Just a few simple tips to organize your main music library:
- It is best to use basic genres when sorting your songs. Instead of Pop Rock, just call it either Pop or Rock.
- There are songs that will involve collaborating artists and will have “featuring” on the song name. Include the “featuring” name on the song’s Meta tag so you can have a solo artist name when browsing.
